Please vote: Itís a tragedy to squander this privilege
It was sad to me to find out how many people who call himself or herself religious of some sort or another did not even take part in the voting process during the elections of 2008.
I think it is a tragedy that we who have this privilege and right squander it and treat it so lightly. There are places in the world that would love to take part in their governmental
process the way we can in America.
There are people who gave their lives to secure us the right of representative government. It is a travesty to waste such a valuable privilege and responsibility of being a citizen of this great land. I personally believe if you live in this country and benefit from the blessings of this country then you ought to contribute to the betterment of this country.
That is one of the problems destroying our society. There are too many people benefiting from living in America and doing little or nothing to contribute to the country in which they live.
Many people give their lives or portions of their lives to public service and I thank them for that, but every one of us should do something to contribute to America. One of the ways we can do that is to vote. I have heard many people make comments as to how ineffective they feel their vote is.
Some feel that no one even cares what they think. Some say their vote doesn’t even matter. Some even feel as though whatever is going to happen is going to happen with or without their vote.
These thoughts are so shortsighted and even depressing. Must I remind you of how close the election was in 2000? If you are a citizen of this land, 18 years or older, and registered to vote, let me urge you to vote. If you are not registered, let me encourage you to get registered now so you are ready to vote next time.
If you are a God-fearing, Bible-believing person then let me urge you to vote in a way that reflects biblical principles that you say you believe in.
Our politicians are supposed to work in behalf of the interests of the people. We express our interests through our vote and our communications to our elected representatives.
How can they represent the interests of people that do not let them know what their interests are by making them known? Make your interests known by voting.
