Outdoor section to get new look

Change can be a good thing.

So we’re going to go ahead and give it a try.

The Outdoor section is going to get a different look in the near future, turning into an Outdoor and Recreation section.

And what does that mean, you ask?

Well, let me explain.

It’s still going to have hunting and fishing features, along with all of your other favorite outdoors stories.

But we want to add more local names and faces to the section, not limited to just outdoors events.

And we want your help with that.

As much as we’d like to be everywhere all the time, we can’t cover everything that happens in the area.

It’s just not possible.

There is too much and we don’t have the bodies.

So if you competed in a marathon that kept track of times and results, send them our way.

If you shoot a trophy bull elk or land a prized steelhead, send us a picture.

If your son’s or daughter’s Little League baseball or softball team wins a tournament, let us know.

We want to feature more faces in this section going forward.

Whether it be with a picture or story.

There are a lot of things that fly under our radar or get to us too late, so don’t hesitate to get us the information.

Anything from youth soccer to triathlons and everything in between. From Union County, Wallowa County to Baker County.

The same goes for local clinics or camps.

Your chances of making the section improve dramatically if you let us know how your team, group or child is doing.

We’re also looking for a couple of columnists who would like to contribute an article or column once a month.

If you’re an expert in a certain field, whether it’s bird watching or river rafting, and you’re handy with words, we would like to hear from you.

This section has the potential to do a lot more, and we want to give credit where it’s due.

Eastern Oregon is known for its outdoor and recreational opportunities, and this is the section where they can be spotlighted.

If you have story ideas, Little League standings or anything else you think deserves to be in the Outdoor and Recreation section, give us a shout.

You can contact The Observer at 541-963-3161 or email me personally at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

I look forward to hearing about all of your outdoor and recreational accomplishments soon.
