19TH ANNUAL LHS SWING CHOIR CABARET WEDNESDAY
|
The La Grande High School Swing Choir, under the direction of J. Michael Frasier, will present the 19th annual Dessert Cabaret Wednesday. The event will start at 6:30 p.m. in the La Grande Middle School Commons. The Cabaret was begun in 1985 as a way to showcase individual talent from within the group and as a fund-raiser, Frasier said. Over the years it has become one of the most anticipated events produced by the choral music department, he said. This year's event will begin with audience members being served desserts, coffee and punch by members of the A cappella Choir. Meanwhile, individuals and small groups from the Swing Choir will perform solos and ensemble numbers from the pop, jazz, musical theater and pop-rock genres. The entire group will join for a couple of pieces reminiscent of the boys and girls groups of the '50s and '60s. Part way throughout the evening an auction of specialty pies and cakes will be held, an activity that provides great fun for bidders and for non-bidders alike, Frasier said. Proceeds will help offset the choir's recent trip to New York City and for the costs incurred to attend next month's State Choir Contest. Tickets are $5, and seating is limited to 250. Tickets are available at the LHS office or at Sunflower Books. Plan now to attend and buy a dessert to take home for May Day or Cinco di Mayo, Frasier said. "You will enjoy a fun evening of quality entertainment and help the choirs in their fund-raising efforts," Frasier said.
