|
Pianist Matt Cooper will play a duo with alto saxophonist Kerry Williams. The pair performs Thursday, Feb. 27 at Ten Depot from 8 to 10 p.m. There's no cover charge. Williams is a 1996 graduate of Baker High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music and jazz minor from Washington State University in May 2002. He also attended William Patterson University in Wayne, New Jersey the Fall of 2000, as part of a National Student Exchange Program. In February 2002, Kerry placed first runnerup in the alto saxophone college jazz soloist division at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow, Idaho. Since graduating, Kerry has lived in Rhode Island and Manhattan, along with working for Carnival Cruise Lines as a showband musician. He has aspirations of continuing to work as a musician for cruise ships and attending graduate school on the East Coast sometime in the next few years. Cooper, meantime, has taught piano, jazz studies and music theory at Eastern Oregon University since 1991. He performs regularly as a solo and collaborative artist on Eastern's Faculty Recital Series, accompanies the Eastern Chamber Choir and also performs frequently as a jazz pianist. |
