UNION - "Dead Men Tell No Tales" is a dramatic haunted house style attraction in the historic Union Hotel, featuring 22 rooms and more than 60 actors and support people.

This major production is a "very scary but not gory" haunt that has a story line with a double ending. Admission will be $9 per person. The haunt will be open to the public on Oct. 19-20, 25-27, 29-31, from 7 to 10 p.m.

On Oct. 20 and 27 the haunt will also be open from 3 to 5 p.m. but will be toned down to be much less scary for younger children and admission will be reduced to $6 per person.

On Halloween night the haunt will open early at 6 p.m.

Also on Halloween night be sure to bring the kids for the Trick-or-Treat Hall at the Union Hotel. Every room on the second floor will be sponsored by different businesses and will be open for trick-or-treaters from 6 to 9 p.m. A pirate photo booth will give an opportunity to dress like a pirate and get pictures taken.

The event is run by Night Fright Productions.

The theme this year is "Dead Men Tell No Tales." The pirate ship "S.S. Night Fright," recently seen sailing in local parades all summer, has been shipwrecked at the Union Hotel and the pirates have taken over the third floor. Patrons will have the "opportunity" to join the pirate crew of Captain Diamond Jack in their search for lost treasure as they navigate the scary rooms of the hotel. But be ye warned, pirates are a treacherous lot, and dead men tell no tales, so you won't know until the end if you get to live or die!

This production has been in planning and construction all year, since the conclusion of last years haunted attraction "The Curse of The Black Widow" which drew record breaking crowds.

"Last year we had almost 2,000 people come through, and we are expecting more this year," says Jeri Mackley, owner and producer of Night Fright Productions. "It's best to come early because we do sell out."

Actors, volunteers and support people for this event include all ages from 10 years old up to grandparents. Most of the actors are EOU students and high school students.

Including last year and this year's events Night Fright Productions will be donating more than $5,000 of the proceeds to charities and organizations including Shelter From the Storm, Court Appointed Special Advocates, the EOU Drama Club and the EOU sports program.

Most of the rest of the proceeds go to funding the event, which costs several thousand dollars to produce.

Get tickets at Sunflower Books in La Grande, the Union Hotel and at the door.
