Opera House celebrates tonight

ELGIN - In keeping with longstanding tradition, Friends of the Opera House proudly announces its charity event, "Christmas at the Opera House" tonight at 7. The anticipated tradition was revived with great success last year after having been interrupted for a couple of years. This year's celebration will once again include a variety of live performances by many community members from all over Union County. "We already have several very talented people participating," said Terry Hale, event organizer. Some of the talent include performances by Al and Colleen MacLoed, The Don Jensen Family and a special encore performance of a few of the favorite songs from "A Christmas Carol." The show, featuring Kenn Wheeler and family, was performed earlier this year at the opera house. Carmen Gentry, the mayor of Elgin, will be the master of ceremonies for this year's production. Along with the great fun and entertainment, the audience is sure to enjoy the beautiful decorated theater and the stunning scenery painted by Jon Hanley. Admission to Christmas at the opera house is $2, plus a can of food to donate to the local food bank. Tickets are available at the door. |
