LA GRANDE - A group of more than 100 dancers takes the stage for shows at EOU’s McKenzie Theatre May 18 and 22.

Each show will begin at 7 p.m. and contain different dances. Each night will include all students of the Dance Arts Inc. studio with age groups from 3 to adult.

Tickets will be available at the door. For advance tickets call 963-6549. Tickets are $7.

Audience members will see dance styles ranging from 3-year-olds (creative dance) buzzing in the garden as bumble bees to the veintagem highest score award winner at Spotlight Dance and Hearts in Motion, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, the advance jazz group.

Showcased throughout the performance will be the teen hip-hop group that will perform the dance that won it first place at Spotlight Dance Competition in Boise — Shawty Get Loose.

Dance Arts Inc. has had five teams participate in contests. Several were recognized for being most entertaining, judge choice awards, best costume and first place including highest score in their category. The groups range in ages from 9 up to 18.

These teams are Freeride Jazz 1, Aretha Mix and Calabria Jr. Hip-Hop, The Generation Gap Int. Modern, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy Jazz 2, Shawty Get Loose and Lost & Found Hip-Hop.

“This has been a great accomplishment by these dedicated groups because some only practice one hour a week,” says Patricia Sandlin, director of Dance Arts Inc. “They have all done a beautiful job.”

Featured guests in this year’s performances will be the EOU Summit Dancers.

Sandlin is also the dance adviser for the university dance team, which will travel to train in Anaheim, Calif., at a college/pro camp this summer. Many of the instructors of the camp are from Hollywood, including Shane Sparks from So Ya Think You Can Dance.

“We are so excited about this coming camp experience,” Sandlin said.

Last year the performance sold out in advance, Sandlin said, so in order to accommodate the public, this year two performances will occur.
