QUILT ENTHUSIASTS GIVE NOD TO WORK BY SEAMSTRESSES

JOSEPH Union and Enterprise quilters won People's Choice awards at the 11th Wallowa Mountain Quilt Show. Diane Wood of Union won Class A (large quilts) for her entry "Songbird." Jean Pekarek of Enterprise won Class B (small quilts and wall hangings) for her entry "Nine Patch Irish Chain." The show, put on by the Wallowa Mountain Quilters Guild, featured a variety of crafting handiwork at the Joseph Elementary School Friday through Sunday. Fifty-four exhibitors from Union, Baker and Wallowa counties, the Tri-Cities and Clarkston, Wash., participated, with 161 quilts for viewing. Approximately 380 visitors some from as far away as Guam, Munich, Germany, and Bombay, India checked out the show. Pekarek also won Challenge Quilt for her entry "Variation of Young Gentlemen's Fancy." The winner of the raffle quilt, "Dresden Plate," was Marilyn Anderson of Enterprise. |
