QUILT ENTHUSIASTS GIVE NOD TO WORK BY SEAMSTRESSES

JOSEPH — Union and Enterprise quilters won People's Choice awards at the 11th Wallowa Mountain Quilt Show.

Diane Wood of Union won Class A (large quilts) for her entry "Songbird."

Jean Pekarek of Enterprise won Class B (small quilts and wall hangings) for her entry "Nine Patch Irish Chain."

The show, put on by the Wallowa Mountain Quilters Guild, featured a variety of crafting handiwork at the Joseph Elementary School Friday through Sunday. Fifty-four exhibitors from Union, Baker and Wallowa counties, the Tri-Cities and Clarkston, Wash., participated, with 161 quilts for viewing.

Approximately 380 visitors — some from as far away as Guam, Munich, Germany, and Bombay, India — checked out the show.

Pekarek also won Challenge Quilt for her entry "Variation of Young Gentlemen's Fancy."

The winner of the raffle quilt, "Dresden Plate," was Marilyn Anderson of Enterprise.
