LA GRANDE - The 2007 Season's Faire will provide a night of spectacular art entertainment that you won't want to miss.
Hosted by the La Grande Arts Commission, this year's event will take place at Loso Hall on the campus of Eastern Oregon University on Saturday, starting with an art preview from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thirty-eight talented artists, including eight who are first-time participants at Season's Faire, will be exhibiting at the Nightingale Gallery and competing for $1,000 in prize money. The awards are provided by generous La Grande sponsors, including Dr. Patrick McCarthy, Mountain Valley Therapy, Dr. Betsy Neeley and Wesley Rampton, DMD. Jill Fitterer, assistant professor of printmaking at Boise State University, will be judging over 100 pieces of art and issuing awards in the following categories: two-dimensional, three-dimensional, Best of Show, Best Donation and a number of Honorable Mentions. The People's Choice award will be selected by the viewing public. All of the art on exhibit is for sale that evening. In addition to the exhibit, each participating artist has donated one art piece for the benefit auction that begins at 7:30. There will also be a silent auction of art, a raffled art piece by Linda Peterson, and gifts provided by 14 table sponsors. You won't want to miss this, so take your seat and register for an auction paddle because the competitive fun is just beginning — and all for a good cause. Funds raised from this event benefit the annual Arts for All festival, a children's day of hands-on art experiences offered at no cost each April. Children can experiment with painting, printmaking, pottery, music, weaving, theater and many other types of art. The Friday program at Arts for All is reserved for children with special needs while Saturday is open to everyone. As many as 500 children have participated in past years. Season's Faire is a time to meet local artists and see what's new and beautiful in the world of color, texture and light. Arrive for the art preview and purchase an original piece of local art for your home, cabin or office. Mingle and taste from a wide variety of hors d' oeuvres and delectable desserts created by local culinary talents. Tickets are $12.50 if purchased in advance or $15 at the door. Advance tickets are available from Sunflower Books, the EOU Bookstore, the Mitre's Touch Gallery in Pat's Alley or by calling Minnie Tucker at 962-1352, ext. 201 at the Parks and Recreation Department in La Grande.
