LA GRANDE - The work of senior art majors, Lisa Greif, Lucas Kruse and Risa Ubagai will be featured in the exhibit This is the Last Thing You’ll Ever See at Eastern Oregon University’s Nightingale Gallery in May.

The exhibition will focus on two-dimensional work that serves as the accumulation of the students’ tenure at EOU.

An opening reception will run from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, and the show will run through May 23.

Lisa Greif has worked with a wide variety of media while studying at EOU. Her current work employs mixed media to discuss a struggle for authenticity and self-hood in relation to rigid and conflicting social expectations. She is particularly interested in the permeability of identity and how adhering to social norms can be simultaneously comforting as a tool of camouflage, and alarming in terms of losing self-identity.

Born and raised in La Grande, Lucas Kruse focuses on painting at EOU. His interest in art began with comic book illustration. The confluence of life in an isolated community, and the influence of comic books and pop culture informs his work and helps him create stark graphic images that emphasize emotional distance between people.

Lucas Kruse -Risa Ubagai’s work deals with her relationship with nature, and the idea of spirituality. She is influenced by the mysteriousness of nature, and the feeling it evokes, especially in the experience of contemplation. Her combination of abstract and representative painting embodies the way she sees this world, and to express this feeling is important for her work.

The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
