Son Light Festival opens Friday

LA GRANDE - The lineup for the seventh annual Son Light Festival was recently announced.

The free two-day event, planned for Friday and Saturday is set to take place at the Union County Fairgrounds.

The gates open at 5 p.m. Friday with opening announcements from the main stage set for 5:30.

Ministries, missions and collages will be on display throughout the festival. Those wanting to get the word out about missions and ministries will be able to do that in the 4-H building.

Meanwhile, enjoy a fine arts show with some art for sale and some just for display. Food vendors and other vendors will be available.

Entertainment and worship from the main stage will be ongoing and will include Brandon Scott and Todd Koeppen from Tacoma, Wash. They’re on at 6 p.m. Friday. Sonsofday, from Vancouver, Wash., end the first day of the festival on the main stage at 10 p.m.

A kids carnival will run from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the small outdoor stage. Then on Saturday, kids 4-13 can enjoy the Bible Buzz Box at 1 p.m. and Kid Karaoke at 7 p.m., both by Psalmist Ministries.

Register by 9 p.m. Friday for the Midnight Cafe featuring Guitar Hero competition and other video games starting 11 p.m. and lasting until 1 a.m. The Cafe is geared toward youths junior high to high school age. The event is organized by Youth For Christ and the Napa Assembly of God Youth Group.

Get a good start on the second day of the Son Light Festival at the freewill offering breakfast Saturday. On the menu is pancakes, ham, eggs, juice and coffee. Breakfast is available from 8 to 11 a.m.

Opening announcements Saturday begin at 10:50 a.m. on the main stage. A full schedule of entertainment and worship will follow on the main stage until the gate closes at 11 p.m.

The Imbler Christian Worship Team takes the stage at 3 p.m. From Snohomish, Wash., catch the Jason Holladay Project at 5 p.m. Soul Renovation from Enterprise entertains at 8 p.m. with country Christian music. Rhonda Funk from Redmond goes on at 10 p.m.

Free camping is available and entrance to the two-day event is free.

On Sunday, volunteer to help clean up the fairgrounds beginning at 1 p.m.
