![]() GREATEST GENERATION MUSIC: Dance harkens back to 1940s. (Go file photo). LA GRANDE - The La Grande High School Band hosts the annual community-wide 1940s USO Dinner and Swing Dance Nov. 11 at the Blue Mountain Conference Center. The event is a fundraiser for the LHS Band sponsored by the Oregon National Guard 3-116th Battalion and the LHS Band Boosters. Modeled after the USO dances of World War II, the evening features live music by the LHS Jazz Ensemble and guest artists. Dinner seating is from 6:30 to 7 p.m. The dinner menu includes beef or vegetarian lasagna, salad, French bread, drinks and dessert. From 8 to 10 p.m. dance to big band swing music with the LHS Jazz Band. Also performing throughout the evening will be guest artists Regina Braker, Anna Cavinato, Joella DeViller, Beth Dorny, Darren Dutto, Ruth Edvalson, Mary Helen Garoutte, Hank Hudson, Sam Jacobsen, Keith VanVickle, Laura Wickman, Michael Wilson and the University of Idaho Jazz Band IV. Cost is $15 per person for dinner and dancing, or $5 per person after 8 p.m. for dancing only. Current members of the military can dance for free after 8 p.m. Tickets are available from any LHS band member, at Sunflower Books or by calling 963-6698. |
