COOL FUN IN THE SUMMERTIME

Want to take a dip to escape Northeast Oregon's sometimes sultry summer weather?

People wanting to cool off need to look no further than four pool sites open to the public in Union County.

Other pools are at Lehman Hot Springs, 38 miles southwest of La Grande, and the Sam-O-Center in Baker City.

Here is information about the prices and hours:

ELGIN COMMUNITY

CENTER POOL

Recreational swims

Monday-Friday: 2 to 5 p.m.

Tuesday and Thursday: 6 to 8 p.m.

Saturday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Family swim

Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 6 to 8 p.m.

Teen swim

Friday: 8 to 10 p.m.

Lap swims

Monday-Friday: 8 to 9 a.m.

Swim rates

$4 for adults and $2 for those age 18 and under

EOU QUINN COLISEUM POOL La Grande

Recreational swims

Monday-Friday: 4:30 to 6:30 p.m

Lap swims

Monday-Friday: 5:30 to 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

FOREST COVE WARM

SPRINGS POOL

Cove

The pool is fed by a spring that keeps the water temperature at 86 degrees. The water turns over every 12 hours.

The pool is owned and operated by Robert Pratt, who bought it in 2004 from Dave and Teckla Cline. The Clines had owned it about 33 years.

Recreation swims

Monday-Sunday: 1 to 5 p.m., the pool sometimes closes early during weekdays so swimmers should call to make sure it is open.

Lap swims

Monday-Saturday: 6 to 8 a.m.

Swim rates

Adults: $6.

Age 6 and under: $2.

7-17: $4.50.

Information: 568-4890. People are encouraged to call to make sure the pool is open.

LEHMAN HOT SPRINGS

Hours

Wednesday and Thursday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Friday: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Saturday: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Sunday: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Swim rates

Age 4 and older: $7.

Age 3 and under: free.

Lehman Hot Springs is just off Highway 244, 38 miles southwest of La Grande.

VETERANS MEMORIAL POOL La Grande

Hours

Recreational swims

Monday-Friday: 1 to 5 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday: 1 to 4 p.m.

Lap swims

Monday-Friday: 5:30 to 7 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 to 7 p.m.

Swim rates

Under 2 years: free with an adult.

Youth (age 2-17): $2.50.

Seniors (60 and up): $3.

Adults (18-59): $3.75.

The above rates are for

La Grande residents. Everyone living outside

La Grande is charged an additional 50 cents except those under age 2.

Full-time college student: $6.

Adults: $6.

Senior, 60 and up: $4.
