Fishing Report for November 22, 2013

Here is the weekly fishing report for selected areas in and around Southeast Oregon, provided by fisheries biologists for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Weekend fishing opportunities:

Trout fishing has been good on the Blitzen River, which remains open to catch-and-release fishing.

Brown trout are cruising the shorelines of Miller Lake attempting to spawn. Fishing for them should be good.

In many lakes and reservoirs, trout are feeding heavily in anticipation of winter – check out Cottonwood Meadows, Deadhorse, Campbell and Overton.

Anglers also have reported good trout fishing in Holbrook Reservoir, where trout up to 18-inches have been caught.

Send us your fishing report

ANTHONY LAKE: rainbow trout, brook trout

The lake was stocked with trophy-sized rainbow trout the week of Aug. 6. Fishing has been fair.

FISH LAKE (Wallowa Mountains): rainbow trout, brook trout

The lake was stocked with legal-sized rainbow trout in June. The water level is low and fishing for rainbow and brook trout is expected to be fair.

GRANDE RONDE LAKE: rainbow trout, brook trout

The lake was last stocked in July with legal-sized rainbow trout. With cool water temperatures fishing should be good for the remaining stocked rainbows.

HAINES POND: rainbow

The pond received a fall stocking of legal and trophy-sized rainbow trout the week of Sept. 23.

MALHEUR RESERVOIR: hatchery rainbow trout

The water level is dropping, and is less than a third full. Legal size trout were released into the reservoir last week. The boat ramp is challenging to use. Anglers are still catching fish. ODFW currently has no plans to remove the bag limit on the reservoir. Orchards Irrigation District has reported the reservoir will be 10 to 20 percent full at the end of irrigation season.

MALHEUR RIVER (Warm Springs Reservoir downstream to South Fork Malheur River):  redband trout and hatchery rainbow trout

Water releases from Warm Springs Reservoir remain at 0. Fishing the Riverside area is expected to be fair.

NORTH POWDER POND: rainbow trout

The pond received a fall stocking of legal and trophy-sized rainbow trout the week of Sept. 23.

THIEF VALLEY RESERVOIR: trout

The reservoir was drained by the Lower Powder River Irrigation District in early September, meaning a near 100 percent loss of trout in the reservoir. The reservoir was restocked with sub-legal sized rainbow trout the first week of November. These fish are not expected to be up to harvestable size until the spring of 2014.

TWIN LAKES (Wallowa Mountains): rainbow trout, brook trout

Fishing for stocked rainbow trout is slow.

WARM SPRINGS RESERVOIR: smallmouth bass, white crappie, catfish, perch, and hatchery rainbow trout

The reservoir was 3 percent full.

and inflows averaged 59 cfs (Nov. 21). The river and the reservoir are very turbid.

The reservoir will remain at or below minimum pool level (1400 ac/ft) until next spring. The boat ramp is out of the water by a significant distance. No recent fishing reports.
