People hoping to cool off need look no further than three public pool sites in Union County. In addition there are pools at Lehman Hot Springs, 41 miles southwest of La Grande, and at the Sam-O Swim Center in Baker City.

Here is information about prices and hours.

The pool is open from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday. Hours may be extended during the summer. The pool will be open through Sept. 1.

Admission for those age 1-6 is $2.50. Admission is $5 for everyone else.

Suits and towels can be rented. Accessories such as goggles, nose clips and sun screen can be purchased.

The pool is fed by a spring that keeps the water temperature at 86 degrees. The water turns over every 13 hours. The pool is owned and operated by Dave and Teckla Cline. They have run it for 32 years.

Lehman Hot Springs has three hot water pools and one cold water pool. The three warm pools have the following Fahrenheit temperature ranges: 120-128, 106-118 and 92-96. The temperature in the cold water pool varies depending on the weather.

The cold water pool, added about seven years ago, is not fed by Lehman's warm creek.

To reach Lehman, travel to Hilgard State Park on Interstate 84 and drive about 30 miles southwest on Highway 244 until reaching Lehman Springs Road. Next drive east on this road about a mile to reach the facility.

There are no signs on Highway 244 indicating where the springs are. However, travelers should look for colored Oregon Visitors information signs less than 100 yards from Lehman Hot Springs Road.

The Oregon Visitors Information signs are displayed because Lehman Hot Springs is a tourist information center.
