SUMMER DAYS ON THE RIVER
SUMMER DAYS ON THE RIVER
![]() Rafters head downstream at the start of their journey (Michelle Bloker). Pulling into the boat ramp at Minam earlier this month, one could feel the excitement rise like a trout to the fly as rafts, kayaks and boats were readied by their adventurers. Here the Wallowa River welcomes water lovers with a near perfect flow as it washes and gurgles playfully northward. Some boaters will ramble with her to Powatka Bridge, others along the Grande Ronde River to Troy and others to unnamed destinations in Washington. The high waters of earlier this season have receded to an accommodating flow for successful rafting, fishing and relaxing. With the Minam store nearby, boat rentals and forgotten supplies can be had from Jim Horn and his 5-year old son CJ. |
