Surplus steelhead find pond home soon

Fishing Report...

PEACH POND (Ladd Marsh): rainbow trout

Surplus steelhead will be put in the reservoir within the next few weeks.

GRANDE RONDE RIVER:  steelhead

Flows and water clarity have greatly improved for steelhead fishing, but cold water temperatures (38°F as of Monday) persist.

Steelhead are still being caught in slower holding water using a variety of methods including bait, jigs, and nymphs. More wild fish are being encountered, and anglers
are reminded to quickly and carefully release unmarked steelhead.

Warmer temperatures and precipitation are forecasted. Expect catch rates to improve this week.

IMNAHA RIVER:  steelhead

Anglers are competing with low flows and cold water temperatures (35°F on Sunday), but steelhead are being caught in the lower reaches.  Warmer temperatures and precipitation in the forecast should increase flow in the Imnaha River and improve catch rates.

WALLOWA LAKE: rainbow trout, kokanee, lake trout

The north end of Wallowa Lake has iced over, and the south end remains open although moving ice sheets may block access at the south end boat ramp. The ice cover is not thick enough to be safe for ice fishing. A few kokanee are being caught for those willing to brave the elements.

WALLOWA RIVER: steelhead

Steelhead fishing remains good in the Wallowa River as fish are beginning to move upstream. Anglers averaged 5.4 hours per fish in last week’s surveys.

Expect good steelhead angling to continue as long as river and weather conditions are favorable.
