Quilt show set for Women’s Connection

Quilts are stories told by  the quilter one stitch at a time.

Each piece of fabric and the overall pattern are carefully chosen, as well.

Some fabrics have a particularly special meaning to the quilter — cut from a long gone beloved grandmother’s apron or scraps left from a now grown child’s favorite dress.

Other fabrics are diligently searched for until just the right print or color is found. Some quilts are prized because the pattern was particularly challenging to its creator.

Other quilts are may have been a healing occupation during a particularly challenging season in life.

Whatever the story, each quilt has its own and the quilters of Union County are being encouraged to share their quilts’ stories.

The February La Grande Women’s Connection will feature a quilt show for such treasures. Local quilters are encouraged to bring their quilts and share their stories with each other.

Inspirational speaker Gail Greco will also be featured during the evening. Greco, who now lives in Cascade, Idaho, is an accomplished watercolor artist, art teacher and quilter. For most her her life, Greco was an Army wife living in Germany, Panama and in various posts throughout the United States. She also served in the Army as a communication specialist.

While her husband, Tom, was deployed to Southwest Asia during Operation Desert Storm, Greco led a family support group for more than 400 wives and children of the unit’s deployed soldiers.

Greco has also served in ministry with the Boise Christian Women’s Club and several mission trips in Guatemala and Mexico.
