UNION - People of all ages are invited to take a walk through Union’s “Darklore Manor’’ in the coming weeks.

Night Fright Production’s annual haunted house opens this weekend at the Historic Union Hotel.

“What Lies In Darklore Manor” is a dramatic haunted house-style attraction that includes 22 rooms and more than 60 actors and support people.

LA GRANDE - The Portland Youth Philharmonic, America’s first youth orchestra, and newly appointed Conductor and Music Director David Hattner will present a concert in La Grande  Oct. 18.

The concert will be at McKenzie Theatre, Loso Hall on the Eastern Oregon University campus beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The Nightingale Gallery of Eastern Oregon University is presenting Making Their Mark, an exhibition featuring six artists from throughout the United States who explore the many possibilities of traditional and experimental drawing.

The exhibition will run Friday through Oct. 24.

There will be an opening reception Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the gallery. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

JOSEPH - A seasoned performer who has shared the stage with the likes of Shawn Colvin, Michael McDonald, Doug Stone, Vanessa Carlton, Jonatha Brooke, and David Wilcox, and hit the road on recent tours with such diverse acts as Julio Iglesias Jr. and Glen Phillips of Toad the Wet Sprocket is coming to Tunesmith Night Saturday.

Jonathan Kingham will perform for the show beginning at 7 p.m. at The Outlaw Restaurant in Joseph.

ELGIN - Twenty-two hundred Cycle Oregon riders will start arriving in Elgin Friday along with their families and support entourage for the week-long tour through “The Last Frontier” — a 410-mile riding tour of scenic Northeast Oregon.

This is the first time that Elgin has served as a Cycle Oregon host city. The cycling begins and finishes in Elgin.

ENTERPRISE - Hells Canyon Mule Days will be celebrating mules and muleskinners on the weekend after Labor Day, Sept. 5-7 at the Wallowa County Fairgrounds on the northwest end of Enterprise.

From its humble beginnings in 1981, Hells Canyon Mule Days has steadily progressed to the fastest growing mule show in the Northwest. This annual event draws mule and donkey owners and spectators from all over the West.

Once again, Hells Canyon Mule Days has been selected, for the third consecutive year, as one of the 101 Great Western Events by American Cowboy Magazine. Also, in part, because of this historical event, First Lady Laura Bush recently awarded the city of Enterprise a Preserve American Community Award.

LA GRANDE - The lineup for the seventh annual Son Light Festival was recently announced.

The free two-day event, planned for Friday and Saturday is set to take place at the Union County Fairgrounds.

The gates open at 5 p.m. Friday with opening announcements from the main stage set for 5:30.

The film project will take place the week of Aug. 18-22, with a premiere of the films Friday, Aug. 22 at 10:30 p.m. This is in collaboration with the Crossing the Blues: La Grande Summer Festival.
