ELGIN - In keeping with longstanding tradition, Friends of the Opera House proudly announces its charity event, "Christmas at the Opera House" tonight at 7.

The anticipated tradition was revived with great success last year after having been interrupted for a couple of years.

This year's celebration will once again include a variety of live performances by many community members from all over Union County.

LA GRANDE - Cold Coffee Media, a new downtown business, is introducing the Satellite Gallery.

A grand opening is taking place Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. to celebrate the arrival of Cold Coffee Media and the gallery. The maiden gallery exhibit will feature the work of Waypoint Studio members.

LA GRANDE - Beckie's Studio of Dance Winter Dance Festival presents "A Time for Hope, Faith & Love."

The show begins at 4 p.m. Saturday at the La Grande High School auditorium.

Admission is $6 for adults and teens and $4 for those age 12 and younger.

ELGIN - When Jillian Wheeler steps onto the stage of the Elgin Opera House Friday to perform in "A Christmas Carol," she will be celebrating an anniversary of sorts.

It will have been 14 years since she first appeared in this Christmas classic. Only the first time she appeared, it was in the role of Tiny Tim, the crippled son of Scrooge's clerk, Bob Cratchit.

The very first time that she hobbled across the stage as the tiny hero of this Charles Dickens masterpiece, Jillian was only 5 years old.

LA GRANDE - La Grande High School Theater offers an entertaining winter play this week in the high school auditorium.

"Snow Angel," written by David Lindsay-Abaire, has been performed on high school and community theater stages around the country.

The funny and poignant play features an excellent ensemble cast of 14 La Grande High School actors.

LA GRANDE - The Eastern Oregon University Jazz Combo's annual fall concert will feature guest saxophonist Greg Johnson of La Grande.

The concert is Monday at 7:30 p.m. in Schwarz Theatre in Loso Hall.

Johnson will appear on the tenor and alto saxophone. A graduate of North Texas State University (now the University of North Texas), Johnson was a member of the famous One O'Clock Band while a student.

 

GRSO opens season with masterpieces

The Grande Ronde Symphony Orchestra will play what Music Director and Conductor Leandro Espinosa calls two very powerful works in its first outing of the season.
