Island City awarded $50,000 grant
The City of Island City has received welcome news.
The Oregon Department of Transportation has awarded the City of Island City a $50,000 grant for its North McAlister Road restoration project. The news was announced by city officials Monday at a meeting of Island City's city council.
Money from the grant will cover the complete cost of asphalt repair and sealing work on the one-mile portion of North McAlister Road running between Buchanan Lane and Highway 82. The grant will also fund a portion of the cost of installing an overlay of asphalt on this portion of McAlister Road which will be conducted after the asphalt repair and sealing work is done, said Judy Rygg, the City of Island City's public works director.
Rogers Asphalt Paving Company was awarded a bid for the first phase of the restoration project in early November. The company bid $29,472 for the asphalt repair work portion of the project and $1,550 for the sealing crack work portion.
The cost of the overlay work has not been determined.
Work on the North McAlister Road restoration project will not begin until at least March when the weather is warmer.
