BAKER CITY — For $5 and some manual labor, area families can soon bring home their Christmas trees. 


Small-Business Happenings: Extension service hosting Christmas bazaar

The OSU Baker County Extension Service and the 4-H Leader’s Association are hosting the 2013 Christmas Bazaar from noon to 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 6 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Cockram Arena on the Baker County Fairgrounds.

More than 70 vendors from Eastern Oregon will be present. 

The Patriots Shooting Sports 4-H Club will be serving food on Friday; the Mutual Improvement Club of Haines will be serving their famous homemade soup/roll/dessert luncheon on Saturday. 

The money earned from the vendor booth rentals provides the funds for collegiate scholarships for 4-H seniors. The vendor’s products provide an early Christmas shopping opportunity for hundreds of people.

Admission is free.

Farm Service Agency committee incumbent Lisa Eisimingerís current term is set to expire, and sheís been nominated for a second go-round on the committee that oversees FSA activities in the Imbler- Summerville-Elgin area.

The United States Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency’s 2013 county committee elections are under way, with ballots mailed out and just one issue to be decided.

Committee incumbent Lisa Eisiminger’s current term is set to expire, and she’s been nominated for a second go-round on the committee that oversees FSA activities in the Imbler-Summerville-Elgin area. 


Staff changes occur at N.E. Oregon Economic Development District

ENTERPRISE — There are a couple of new faces this month at the tri-county Northeast Oregon Economic Development District’s office in Enterprise.

Jeff Moss left the district last month to pursue a career in ministry, leaving a position he had filled for three years. To suit both the needs of the program and its two new hires, the job was split in two.

Union County Economic Development Corporation receives first-hand look at multi-million dollar operation that employs 75 workers

Greg Barreto built his first all-hydraulic tiller more than 30 years ago. As a college student he grew tired of fixing tillers, so he began to make his own.

He sold his first tiller to his employer at a rental yard and launched Barreto Manufacturing, Inc. in 1984.
