Sonlight Ranch joins American Angus Association

Sonlight Ranch of La Grande is a new member of the American Angus Association, according to Bryce Schumann, the chief executive officer of the national breed organization headquartered in Saint Joseph, Mo.

The American Angus Association, with more than 24,000 active adult and junior members, is the largest beef breed association in the world. Its computerized records include detailed information on more than 17 million registered Angus.

The Association records ancestral information, keeps production records on individual animals, and develops industry-leading selection tools for its members. These programs and services help members select and mate the best animals in their herds to produce quality genetics for the beef cattle industry and quality beef for consumers.

Regional shuttle service starts up in La Grande

La Grande resident and former Oregon Youth Authority worker Deon Chandler has gone into business for himself, offering door-to-door shuttle transportation for people traveling to cities as close as Pendleton and as far away as Boise, Idaho.

Chandler, a Pennsylvania native, moved to La Grande in 1995 and went to work at OYA’s RiverBend youth facility. In the mid-to-late 1990s, he attended Eastern Oregon University, majoring in liberal studies. In 2013, he left OYA to start his business.

Chandler said DC Shuttle provides transportation from La Grande to Pendleton, Baker City, Walla Walla and Tri-Cities, Wash., and Boise. The vehicle is a six-passenger, four-wheel drive shuttle with a closed and secured bed for luggage, boxes and equipment.

Chandler said his target clients are people traveling to airports, medical appointments, taking shopping trips, or traveling for holidays.

“There are a lot of college kids that commute, and also elderly people who need the service. I’ve always thought there’s a need in the community for door-to-door service,” he said.

For more information, contact DC Shuttle at 541-962-5340.

Chad Chamberlin opens insurance agency in La Grande

Long-time Eastern Oregon resident Chad Chamberlin has opened an insurance agency in La Grande, offering a wide variety of American National Insurance products.

Chamberlin was born and raised in Oregon City, graduating from high school there in 1995. He studied criminal justice at Clackamas Community College and subsequently worked as a police officer in Baker City.

Later he moved to the Boardman area and worked for U.S. Cellular. He has been a La Grande resident since 2007.

Chamberlin said that as a multi-line American national agent, he can take care of most insurance needs, though he specializes in classic cars, renters insurance, disability insurance and insurance for small business.

The American National Family of Companies include not only the parent company, American National Insurance, but also American National Property and Casualty Company and Farm Family Insurance Companies. American National recently added Oregon to its marketplace.

Chamberlin’s office is located at 101 Fir Street in downtown La Grande. The phone number is 541-624-5747.
