Alegre Travel of La Grande staged a grand re-opening Sept. 10 to celebrate moving into its new location at 1307 Adams Ave.

The longtime business was formerly located at 101 Depot St. The travel agency’s space is owned by the Masonic Lodge, which remodeled the business space for Alegre.

“We love our new spot,” Alegre owner Peggy Weishaar said. “It has a lot more front office space.”

As part of the grand re-opening, Alegre invited writers Dennis Cass, Rebecca Cass and Molly Brog, aka AJ Arthur, to have a book signing for their murder mystery “Homicide on the Half Shell.”

After many summer visits to the Hood Canal area in Washington state, the trio, who are all retired teachers with ties to La Grande, dreamed of writing a murder mystery set in that locale.  According to the book’s website, the three committed to write each Wednesday night and described the experience as three hours of eating and laughing and one hour of writing. Each author had different writing and editing strengths, and a collaborative effort ensued. Nine months later, the novel was born.

The book’s cover was created by Ted Miller, Jr., a former La Grande High School student turned professional artist.
