IDLE AND EMPTY
It's still empty.
The former Troutman's Emporium store at the La Grande Town Center, which was to open last year as Jones Emporium, remains idle and likely will stay that way for awhile.
Neal Jones, who announced plans last summer to open Jones Emporium clothing stores at former Troutman's Emporium locations in La Grande, John Day and Pendleton, has yet to start business in the 28,000-square-foot La Grande store.
Jones told The Observer last year that he planned to open the La Grande store in July; then in August he said he thought the opening would happen in November. It did not.
The building is owned by Standard Insurance Company. Trond Ingvaldsen, the firm's assistant vice president of real estate, said last week Jones never had a deal with Standard.
"He never had a lease with us," Ingvaldsen said. "We're trying to market the property. We're looking for a tenant."
Repeated telephone messages left for Jones last week were not answered.
Jones did open stores in John Day and Pendleton last year.
The John Day store is currently operating under the name "Mountain's." But the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce said the Jones Emporium store there is in the process of going out of business.
