JOSEPH A new bed and breakfast in Joseph was voted among the top 15 bed and breakfast or inns for Best Mountain Views in the United States.

The Bronze Antler Bed and Breakfast, after being voted into the category by people who stayed in B&Bs this year, was given the award by Arringtons Bed and Breakfast Journals 2002 Book of Lists competition. The competition encouraged travelers across the nation to recognize their favorite inns in 50 categories. Arringtons is a Texas-based national monthly trade publication for members of the bed and breakfast and county inn industry.

The Bronze Antler appears as a winner in Arringtons special December Book of Lists issue, and on Arringtons Web site at www.bnbjournal.com.

It was quite a surprise since we only opened in June, innkeeper Heather Tyreman said. We are very honored.

The gorgeous mountain scenery was a very compelling reason to establish our new business in Wallowa County, said her husband and co-owner, Bill Finney.

Finney and Tyreman are both retired U.S. Army officers. Finney is a nurse who works part-time at Wallowa Memorial Hospital.

Tyreman has been elected to the board of directors of the Wallowa County Chamber of Commerce.

The couple, after purchasing the home at 309 South Main Street in August 2000, spent the winter remodeling it.

The inns decor reflects the houses 1920s arts and crafts bungalow roots. The inn has hosted nearly 300 guests since opening.

The B&B can be reached at P.O. Box 74, Joseph 97846, e-mailed at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , or visit their Web site at www.bronzeantler.com.
