UPS MOVES: The new UPS shipping center is situated near the corner of Gekeler Lane and Highway 30 in La Grande. A larger facility and additional parking make for a positive change, say UPS employees. ().

The United Parcel Service (UPS) operations center has moved from the Bearco Industrial Park on Riddle Road near Island Avenue to 3002 Gekeler Lane.

UPS spokesman Bill Canavan said the move was begun Nov. 24 and was completed within a week.

Canavan said UPS made the move for a number of different reasons.

"The other place was old, tired and used up, and we lost our lease," Canavan said.

He noted that UPS shipping and receiving are computer driven, and more space was needed.

"Now we have places to put the computers," he said.
