ODOT'S NORTHEAST OREGON MANAGER MOVING TO NEW JOB

Mary Martini may not have been much in the public limelight, but she has left some large marks across the state of Oregon, as far as the Department of Transportation is concerned.

As ODOT's Northeast Oregon manager, she picked up her 20-year service pin from Department of Transportation Director Bruce Warner last week during the Transportation Commission's meeting in La Grande.

June 21 was her last day of working for ODOT.

"It's ironic. I was hired on June 21, 1982, and my last day will also be June 21," she said Thursday after picking up the pin and a Region 5 appreciation award as well as a Project Delivery Leadership award for work during 1999-2000.

"Mary has brought big footsteps to her job and leaves large ones for her successor to fill," said Steve Corey of Pendleton. He is chairman of the state commission.

Martini will be taking a job with URS, an engineering consulting firm in Portland. She will work out of the Portland office. Her title will be director of the highway bridge group for the Northwest, covering Oregon, Washington and Idaho.

The company has offices in Portland, Spokane, Seattle and Boise.

She has worked for ODOT on projects in Portland, Salem, Corvallis, Roseburg and Waldport, serving in different positions. She came to La Grande in 1997 as a regional construction engineer.

Steve Davis of the La Grande office will serve as interim Northeast Oregon manager.
