BRINGING HOME THE BUSINESS Vicki Stanton, who has 17 years' experience as a beautician, is opening her own one-chair shop in her home at 1703 Cedar St. She is calling it Garden Gate Salon. The opening will be Tuesday. Her hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but she sees clients both men and women by appointment only. The phone number is 663-8548. Stanton worked at Cutting Corner Hair Studio for four years and at the Pirates Den for 13. OPEN HOUSE PLANNED BY BOOKS & BILLARDS Benjamin Brown Books and Billiards will hold its Grand Opening on Oct.25 from 5 p.m -to 9 p.m. A drawing will be held for a $25 gift certificate and coffee and goodies will be provided by Kneads Bakery. Benjamin Brown Books and Billiards is at 1315 Adams Ave., with the entrance on Fir Street. LA GRANDE MARKET SOLD; NEW OWNERS NOW HAVE THREE Larry and Charlotte McLaughlin of La Grande, who own two local markets in Union County towns, are taking over another. They have purchased Mike's Market at 2004 Spruce St. in La Grande from Mike Hemmer. Jessica Dockweiler will be the manager of the store. The McLaughlins own Dollars Corner in Cove and the Imbler Market. Their new property will be called Spruce Street Market. Hemmer bought the store in October 2000. It was called Dave's Market then. EASTSIDE TAVERN GETS NEW OWNER, NEW NAME The former Eastside Tavern will re-open under the name of Bogey's Bar and Grill. The new owner and operator is Cynthia Kay Seterlund of Gresham. It's located at 2209 Adams Ave. On the application to the state Liquor Control Commission, Seterlund lists her present occupation as "resource marketing sales manager, Atlanta, Ga., 1998 to present." Before that she was employed for three years by the Trail Blazers as "fans sales manager" and worked four a year as a "fine dining server" for the Hilton in Portland. TIME FOR A CHANGE The drive-in theater on 20th Street is in a multi-family residential zone, according to city records. The owners are going through the process of having it rezoned to commercial use, since this reflects its actual use. A hearing is scheduled before the planning commission Nov. 12. GOING, GOING, GONE Not all vacated Safeway stores are left vacant. One in Seaside, which was built in 1961, has been demolished. A four-story, 79-room Holiday Inn Express will take its place.
