1-year moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries
The Union County Board of Commissioners voted Wednesday morning to place a one-year moratorium on the operation of medical marijuana dispensaries in Union County.
The moratorium will apply only to unincorporated areas of Union County. Within incorporated areas only the city they are within can impose a moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries.
The commissioners voted 3-0 for the moratorium after a hearing. Two people spoke in support of the moratorium and three asked that a moratorium not be imposed.
The Union County Board of Commissioners was able to take its step because of
legislation recently passed in Oregon. The legislation allows local governments to impose a one-year ban on medical marijuana dispensaries, if enacted by May 1.
