AUTHORITIES RECOVER MOST OF THE EQUIPMENT STOLEN FROM LHS

By The Observer

Most of the equipment stolen Tuesday or Wednesday from La Grande High School was recovered during a search of a suspects vehicle Friday afternoon.

But not the school keys.

A set of keys was taken from a school staff members vehicle either late Tuesday or early Wednesday, Principal Doug Potter said Friday. Those missing keys were not found during the search Friday, La Grande Police Senior Officer Kris Petersen said.

The school is being rekeyed, though, said Sgt. Scott Franks.

Petersen had made a traffic stop in La Grande Thursday and began searching the vehicle of Johnny L. Snyder, 18. When she spotted items that appeared to possibly have been stolen, she stopped the consent search and sought a full search warrant.

Petersen and members of the Union County multi-agency drug task force conducted the search Friday.

We recovered the majority of the missing material, Petersen said. Missing were computers, video and recording equipment from the alternative school at La Grande High School.

But the search also appears to have resolved more than just the school theft. Petersen said the recovered items include property missing from at least three police cases, including recent car prowls in the La Grande area.

Snyder, who was arrested Thursday, is being held in the Union County jail and will face formal charges later today, with more charges pending, police said. Police said that there may be other suspects charged in some of the cases.
