Area under red flag warning

Northeast Oregon is under a red flag or fire weather warning today, according to the National Weather Service.

A southerly flow bringing a shortwave through the region today and tonight will trigger high-based thunderstorms that will move from Central Oregon to Northeast Oregon, according to NWS. Because fuels are dry and the storms may produce abundant lightning, there is a potential for numerous fire starts in the area.

Wind gusts of up to 50 mph are expected to accompany the storms as the begging to develop this morning and move north and east through the day. Thunderstorm changes will continue through the night and into Wednesday morning. The red flag warning is in effect until 9 a.m. Wednesday.
