By The Observer
Departing La Grande School District Superintendent Jerry Sessions has received high marks in his annual evaluation.
Sessions, who is leaving at the end of June to become superintendent of the Hood River County School District, was lauded in a letter of evaluation that was read at Wednesdays board meeting.
As a board, we would like to thank you for your dedication and professionalism in leading this district into the millennium. The results that you have attained are of the highest quality, said board chairperson Guy Weishaar in a two-page letter he read at the board meeting.
The many things Sessions was praised for included his ability to work with people.
You demonstrate high ethical standards, personal caring, respect and team building abilities, Weishaar said. Your leadership is sound and very strong. This district has moved in leaps and bounds with your leadership.
By maintaining high ethical values and standards for yourself, you have set the environmental tone throughout the district, Weishaar said.
Sessions, who is completing his second year as La Grandes superintendent, also received high marks in his first-year evaluation.
The La Grande School Board has launched its search for Sessions successor. Applications will be accepted through May 4. Applications will be evaluated by a screening committee May 7-11. Weishaar said the board hopes to have a new superintendent selected by June 5.
