Bike committee celebrates new sign
The Northeast Oregon Cyclist- Bicycle Committee will celebrate the installation of the sign and display case for the Grande Tour Scenic Bikeway at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Riverside Park pavilion parking lot. The committee has been working on this project for one year.
The purpose of the kiosk is to promote the Grande Tour Scenic Bikeway, assist riders in their search for all or part of a great route and the amenities offered along the route. Web addresses were included to assist riders with lodging, road conditions, food and camping sites and other information about Northeast Oregon.
Park and Ride sites have been identified and created along the route. Public transit schedules and transit centers have been included in this project to allow cyclists to plan a trip that might include using the transit system.
Cyclists may opt to ride to Baker City and then take the bus back to La Grande or hop the bus in Haines and ride to La Grande for a short day of cycling. The options are limitless, the committee said.
A bicycle-related quote has been added to the signs for fun. Each sign has a different quote. The project includes five kiosks. In addition to the Riverside Park sign, kiosks will be installed in Union, North Powder and Baker.
The committee is appreciative of the sponsors and individuals who contributed to this project. Sponsors include the Union and Baker County chambers of commerce, Anderson Perry and Associates,
