Creek closes to Chinook fishing

ELGIN — Lookingglass Creek, a tributary to the Grande Ronde River at Palmer Junction, will close to fishing for hatchery spring Chinook beginning today. The last day of fishing was Tuesday, when biologists expected the harvest quota would be reached.

“Anglers have enjoyed good fishing since the fishery opened on May 31,” said Tim Bailey, ODFW district fish biologist in La Grande. “Water conditions in Lookingglass Creek have been ideal, and with good numbers of Chinook showing up, catch rates were very good. The only down side to the season is that it went by quickly.”

For more information, call the ODFW Northeast Region office in La Grande at 541-963-2138.

The class will teach people how divorce or separation impacts children and what can be done to help them cope. The free class is sponsored by the Family Law Advisory Committee.
