BRIEFLY: Icy road blamed for injury crashes
IMBLER — At least two people were injured in a pair of single-vehicle rollover traffic accidents Friday morning about a mile north of Imbler on Highway 82.
The first accident occurred at about 5:20 a.m. The second accident took place less than 10 minutes later about one- 10th of a mile north of the first accident. La Grande Fire and Ambulance crews transported at least one person from each accident to Grande Ronde Hospital.
Highway 82 was slippery at the time of both accidents, according to the La Grande Fire Department.
LHS Class of 1947 meets Monday
The La Grande High School Class of 1947 will meet for lunch at noon Monday at the Flying J Travel Plaza. Everyone is welcome.
Cove serves up senior meal April 4
COVE — The Cove senior meal will be served April 4 at Kimsey Commons. The menu by Chef Merlyn Baker will include beef stroganoff, Caeser salad, rolls and a cobbler. Coffee and tea will be served starting at noon, and lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. RSVP Imie Bristow at 541-568-4545 by Monday.
Master Gardener class set Tuesday
The next Master Gardener class will run from 5:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Union County 4-H & Extension Education Center, 10507 N. McAlister Road.
This week’s topic will be Tree Care 101, with guest instructor Teresa Gustafson, tree care educator for the City of La Grande.
The class will include a pruning demonstration as well as tips on watering and caring for trees both young and old.
The public is welcome to attend at a drop-in rate of $10 per person (cash or check only). Refreshments will be served.
Cove City Council meets Tuesday
COVE — The City of Cove will hold its regular council meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cove City Hall, 504 Alder St. Agenda items include the Rose Ridge Subdivision and the Rose Street Bridge. There will be an executive session to discuss correspondence from the city’s legal counsel on the cell tower.
LHS Class of 1964 plans reunion
The La Grande High School Class of 1964 will meet at noon Saturday at the Flying J Travel Plaza for a no-host lunch and reunion meeting.
Chamber general meeting set Thursday
The quarterly Union County Chamber of Commerce general meeting will take place Thursday at the Flying J Travel Plaza. The meeting will run from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. It’s a chance to hear what’s new with the chamber and to discuss ideas, or have breakfast with community leaders and friends.
Dayspring Ladies Tea unfolds April 5
UNION — The sixth annual Dayspring Ladies Tea will run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. April 5 at Union Baptist Church, 1531 S. Main St. Admission is free.
The program includes music, an inspirational speaker, a wacky fashion show, door prizes and a hat contest. Categories for the hat contest are Vintage, Humorous, Minnie Pearl Award, Elegant and Redneck.
