BRIEFLY: Library offers craft for ‘teens’ Saturday
The Cook Memorial Library is offering a book art craft for teens at 3 p.m. Saturday in the library’s Teen Zone. Teens will create al keepsake box out of a discarded book. Supplies are provided, and registration is not required. iCraft is the library’s free monthly craft activity for “teens” ages 11 and older.
Cove Senior Dinner served up Friday
COVE — The Cove Senior Dinner will include a coffee and tea social at noon and dinner served at 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Cove Baptist Church. Ham and scalloped potatoes with a fruit salad, a vegetable and a Christmas dessert are on the menu.
The BlueMountaineers will provide live music. People should RSVP to Imie Bristow at 541-568-4545 if they plan on attending.
Tree of Warmth donations due soon
UNION — Due to incorrect information provided to The Observer, the dates the school kids in Union would receive the donations of gloves and hats was incorrect in the “Tree of Warmth” story on Friday’s religion page. People are asked to stop by the fellowship hall in the back of the United Methodist Church and hang their warming donation on the Christmas tree no later than Wednesday. Then on Thursday, donated items will be presented to kids at the school in Union. For more information, contact Edna Kenworthy at 541-562-5386.
Pesticide applicator CORE training set
Northeast Oregon Private Pesticide Applicator CORE Training will run from 9:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday. The training will be delivered simultaneously via video-conference to OSU Extension Service locations including Union County Extension Service, 10507 N. McAlister Road, La Grande, phone 541-963-1010; and Wallowa County Extension Service, 668 N.W. First, Enterprise, 541-426-3143.
People are asked to RSVP at their local OSU Extension Service office.
The course is divided into two two-hour sessions, which allows participation in either morning or afternoon session (two credits each) or both sessions (four credits total). Oregon pesticide applicator re-certification credits earned during this training will count either as CORE or general credits.
The morning session will include “Spray Drift Management: Drift Reduction Technology and Spray Nozzle Selection” with Mike Powers of A & L Supply.
The afternoon session includes “Pesticide Storage Assessment Exercise and Discussion” with Darrin Walenta of the Extension Service and an “ODA Pesticide Division Update” with Laurie Gordon, ODA certification/registration specialist.
