BRIEFLY: Slow and Easy Jam happens Thursday

Slow and Easy Jam happens Thursday

Musicians are invited to Bear Mountain Pizza Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. for the Slow and Easy Jam. The jam is for musicians of acoustic instruments of any level playing a repertoire of Irish, Scottish, bluegrass, old timey and French Canadian fiddle tunes. 

The jam takes place the first Thursday of each month and is sponsored by Bear Mountain Pizza and Traditional-Live!

Participants should bring $1 for pizza and call Carla Arnold to place their order before 5 p.m. For more information call 541-663-0776.

Hardy to speak at historical society

The Union County Historical Society will meet at noon Saturday at the log cabin at the fairgrounds. The meeting begins with a potluck. 

Guest speaker Gene Hardy, who was unable to attend last month, will speak this Saturday. Hardy will talk about the history of the Hardy family of Elgin. 

A short business meeting will follow. The public is invited to attend.

EOU’s Kids Night Out is Friday

Children from kindergarten to eighth grade are invited to Kids Night Out Friday, sponsored by the EOU women’s basketball team. 

From 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Quinn Coliseum on the EOU campus kids can participate in indoor activities such as basketball, volleyball, dancing and rock climbing. 

The cost is $10 per person.

Concessions will be open and will include a special meal deal (hot dogs, chips and a drink) for $2.75. All areas will be supervised by professionals certified in First Aid and CPR. Participants should wear proper clothing and shoes. No Heeleys are allowed. 

Parents can pre-register their kids, or register at the door from 5:40 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Participants are signed in and out at the door and released only to those who are indicated at sign-in. Participants can leave early but cannot return. A liability form must be signed at registration. Landscape commission meets 

La Grande’s Landscape and Forestry Commission will meet in a regular session at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Parks Department conference room, 2402 Cedar St. On the agenda is discussion of the spring tree planting and Future Steward program.

Main Street offers marketing class

La Grande Main Street Downtown will host its first quarterly marketing class from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Upper Room at the Marketplace. Breakfast will be served. 

The class will focus on the Marketing Bridge, a program that outlines the communication process between businesses and their customers, and how to effectively reach them with any media. 

Led by Pacific Empire Radio’s Management Team, the class is free for Main Street members, $10 for non-members. RSVP with Main Street Coordinator Saira Siddiqui at 541-963-1223.

South County Health District to meet

The South County Health District will conduct its regular board meeting March 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room of the Union Family Health Center. The public is welcome to attend.

Hiatt songs featured at Joe Beans tonight

The monthly first Wednesday concert at Joe Beans begins at 7 p.m. tonight. The featured songwriter will be John Hiatt. Suggested donation is $5 at the door.
