BRIEFLY: Travel management meetings scheduled

Travel management meetings scheduled

U.S. Rep. Greg Walden, R-Hood River, will be in Eastern Oregon for town hall meetings to discuss travel management plans.

Two meetings are planned in Union County: 3 p.m. Sunday, at the Wallowa-Union Train Depot, 300 N. Eighth St., Elgin;  9:15 a.m. Monday, at AC Power Sports, 10701 Walton Road, La Grande.

Bake sale, canned food drive scheduled 

UNION — The Grande Ronde Valley Rainbow Girls bake sale and canned food drive will run from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday in front of Union Post Office, Main Street.

People can try yummy treats and support the girls youth organization. Proceeds help them fund service projects and attend Grand Assembly — their annual state conference.

Rainbow Girls are also collecting canned foods to help support local food banks.

Operations of Elgin clinic discussed 

UNION — The South County Health District will conduct a work session at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Union Family Health Center to discuss operations of the Elgin Health Clinic.

CUCU holds Monday ukulele session

The Coalition of  Union County Ukuleles will hold its monthly third Monday ukulele music reading session from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Bear Mountain Pizza, 2104 Island Ave.

Loaner ukes are available, and songbooks  are provided for the evening. All levels are encouraged to come jam and enjoy the fun. For more information, visit www.cucu

LHS Class of 1972 meets Tuesday

The La Grande High School Class of 1972 will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Mamacita’s, 2003 Fourth St.

Chef prepares Cove senior meal 

COVE — The Cove senior dinner will take place March 21 at the Cove Baptist Church. The menu by Chef Merlin Baker will include shepherd pie with gravy, rolls, salad and chocolate chip cookies. 

Coffee and tea will be served starting at noon. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. Live music will be provided by the BlueMountaineers. RSVP to Imie Bristow at 541-568-4545 by Monday if you plan to attend.

City offers Holiday Fun Camp

The City of La Grande Recreation Division will sponsor a Holiday Fun Camp for children ages 6 and older from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 24-27. Children will do crafts, sports, games and take field trips for activities such as rock climbing and roller skating. Lunch and snacks will be provided.

Cost for the four-day camp is $50 per child if registered by Tuesday, $55 after that date or $15 per day.

Brown Baggers discuss Title IX 

The Tuesday Brown Bag Lunch at the Josephy Library features a discussion of Title IX with guests Joseph Superintendent Rhonda Shirley, Education Service District Director Karen Patton and Attorney Paige Sully. Brown Bags begin at noon, and people should bring a lunch.

SolWest fair committee meets

The SolWest “Renewable Energy & Sustainable Living” Fair committee meeting will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cook Memorial Library, 2006 Fourth St. Discussion topics will relate to the June 27-29 SolWest Fair, scheduled at the Union County Fairgrounds.
