BRIEFLY: VFW holds Pearl Harbor Dinner
UNION — Veterans of Foreign Wars High Valley Post 4060 in Union will be holding a Pearl Harbor Dinner on Saturday.
The meal is steak, baked potato, baked beans and salad. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the cost is $10.
All World War II veterans and the spouses will receive a free meal. The spouses of deceased World War II veterans will receive a free meal as well.
Cove senior meal served up Friday
COVE — Cove senior meal will take place Friday at Kimsey Commons. Coffee will be served at noon, and dinner will be served at 12:30 p.m. On the menu are old-fashioned chicken and dumplings. RSVP to Imie Bristow by Wednesday at 541-568-4545.
Cinnamon Cottage offers Holiday Bazaar
Cinnamon Cottage’s 20th year of Holiday Bazaar will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the union hall, 2301 Adams Ave. The bazaar will include holiday gifts, themed baskets and yesterday’s treasures Donations will be accepted for the Union County Food Bank.
School board eyes football options
COVE — The Cove School Board will meet from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight and Tuesday to take input from the public on the high school’s football options. The board wants input regarding what the school district should do after Cove High School was boosted to the larger Class 2A classification by the Oregon School Activities Association. The meetings will be in the old gym.
Senior parents meet to plan fundraiser
UNION — A Union High School senior parent meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Union Family Health Center conference room. Plans will be finalized for the fundraiser Saturday. Any interested students or parents are invited to attend.
New Life Center Christmas Bazaar set
Church plays host to Holiday Bazaar
Faith Lutheran Church, corner of 12th and Gekeler, will have its annual Holiday Bazaar from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday with crafts and foods.
Elgin planning holiday events
ELGIN — Elgin is ringing in the holidays with a host of seasonal activities.
To start, the Elgin Lions Club is sponsoring a high school basketball tournament Friday and Saturday. Girls and boys teams from Elgin, Umatilla, Baker City and Vale will face off beginning at noon Friday and Saturday at Elgin High School. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.
The season kicks into high gear Dec. 14 at the United Methodist Women Holiday and Gift bazaar at the Elgin Community Center, 260 N. 10th Ave. The bazaar runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. People can get lunch, or a cup of coffee or dessert.
The Elgin Lions Annual Light Parade starts at 6 p.m. Dec. 14. People can enjoy a hot chocolate or cup of coffee while the floats go by.
Afterward, people are invited to swing by the Stampede grounds for a chili feed and to find out which floats won in the parade. For more information, call Janet at 541-786-0411 or Jared at 541-786-1285.
The Elgin Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring opening weekend of the upcoming production “Guys & Dolls” at the Elgin Opera House Dec. 13-14. When groups of 10 or more purchase tickets, each group member will receive a free popcorn. Just mention “Elgin Chamber.”
