Bargain hunters converge on Lostine Flea Market

LOSTINE — Live music, hot breakfast, fresh produce and plants will all be available again at the Lostine Flea Market July 3-5. South Fork Grange is serving a pancake and sausage or ham and eggs breakfast from 6:30 to 11 a.m. each day of the flea market. June’s Market will be selling fresh local strawberries in a cone along with many locally produced useful and decorative arts and crafts and local wool product samples. Debbie Yarborough’s perennials and vegetable plants will be sold out of the Market this year. Booths are open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Lostine City Recorder Jodi Burgess said that many of the usual vendors are returning including the Western Pack Co. with backpacks and luggage, antiques dealers and several others. A new clothing booth will be open along with several jewelry booths. Live music with the Moffitt Brothers Band will start at noon on Saturday. The 27th annual Lostine River Run/Walk is back on track again this year. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Wallowa County and managed by Eastern Oregon Sports Training LLC, the race promises to be another exciting and fun event. Check in and late registration is 7 to 8 a.m. Buses leave for the start of the 5K and 10K races at 8:15 a.m. sharp. All races, including the 1-mile run and walk, start at 9 a.m. The 10K race is comprised of two miles of rolling hills, then four miles level and downhill. The 5K is a relatively flat course with one small hill. The 1-mile course is planned in and around the city of Lostine. The 5K and 10K pre-registration is $20 with a T-shirt, $12 without the shirt; 1 mile pre-registration is $16 with shirt and $8 without. Registration online is available at www.active.com and ends June 27. Late registration is available on race day for an additional $5 fee. Competition classes include male and female age groups of under 13, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60- 69, and 70 and up. Plaques will be awarded to overall winners and top masters, medals to top finishers in each age group, ribbons for second through fifth placers in each age group. Ribbons will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age group for the 5K and 1 mile walks. Refreshments and drawings are scheduled after the races.
