Barreto holding fiscal edge

Union County businessman outspending Pendleton challenger in District 58 race

District 58 candidate Greg Barreto is outspending opponent John Turner 3-to-1.

According to campaign finances records available on the Oregon Secretary of State website, Barreto’s committee, Barreto for HD 58, has spent more than $65,000 on the campaign compared to Turner’s $19,829.

The two will square off in the May Republican primary for a seat in the Oregon Legislature representing District 58, which includes Union, Wallowa and part of Umatilla counties.

Turner, of Pendleton, has touted his public service experience and work with the Legislature during his tenure in public education. He served for nine years as the president of Blue Mountain Community College.

Barreto, a Cove resident, has campaigned on his decades of business experience. He is owner and founder of Barreto Manufacturing, based in Union County.

Campaign finances for Barreto got a huge boost late last month when Nevada businessman Loren Parks donated $30,000 to the campaign. The Barreto campaign has also been helped with a $35,000 loan, according to campaign finance data.
