Board exploring bond for building improvement s
The Cove School Board is in the initial stages of determining whether it should seek a bond levy for capital construction and maintenance work.
What might such a bond levy pay for?
A new floor for the school district’s old gym is one item Cove School District Superintendent Bruce Neil would like the board to consider. Neil said the floor is in poor condition.
“There are nails sticking out of it,” the superintendent said, noting that extra coats of wax have to be applied now to address the problem.
The old gym is located just west of the elementary school.
The school board on Tuesday night was presented with a list of items the school district’s staff indicates it would like the board to consider.
“It is a starting point for discussion,” Neil said.
The list includes adding air conditioning to the elementary school library and to the fourth- and fifth-grade classrooms.
“It is hot in the spring and fall. It is hard on the kids and the staff,” Neil said.
Neil said air conditioning in the library, extending the concrete base in the cellar area under the gym floor in the high school, funding for the creation of a high school commons area, new playground equipment and remodeling of the school district’s cafeteria are also on the list.
The school board will later conduct a work session to determine what items it will seek a bond levy for.
