Power blinks out in Imbler area 

IMBLER — Some 611 members in Imbler, Summerville and surrounding areas lost power at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday due to a damaged pole, Oregon Trail Electric Cooperative reported. The damaged pole had to be replaced before service could be restored at 9:10 a.m.

Greenwood sets Dr. Seuss Family Night  

Students and families are invited to attend Greenwood Elementary School’s free Family Fun Night from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday in the gymnasium.

Dinner will be available at 5:30 p.m. to participants at no cost, including green eggs and ham. Games and activities related to Dr. Seuss’ books will follow.

Greenwood Elementary School, one of three public elementary schools in La Grande, serves students and families of students in first grade through fifth grade. 

The school is dedicated to developing lifelong learners who are responsible for being safe, kind, respectful and responsible.

Afterschool program needs volunteers 

Run Girl Run needs volunteers. This new 4-H afterschool program for girls in fourth and fifth grade at Central Elementary aims to teach lifelong healthy habits and active lifestyle while increasing self-esteem and confidence. 

Fifteen girls will meet from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. every Monday and Thursday to work on running technique and endurance. 

Fifteen women 18 and older are needed to partner with youth participants. 

Adults will serve as mentors and help motivate and encourage the young runners. No running experience is necessary. 

The program will run March 31-May 29. 

Volunteers should also be available to participate in a 5K race on May 31 with their youth partner.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Feed set 

UNION — The Shrove Tuesday Pancake Feed will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Cost is $4 per person for 12 or older, $2.50 per child younger than 12 and $12 per family. 

Donations will be graciously accepted.

On the menu are pancakes, sausage, applesauce, hashbrowns, coffee and orange or apple juice.

The pancake feed is sponsored by the men of Sacred Heart Church.

Union County Nile Club meets Monday

Union County Nile Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Golden Harvest Cafe.

Cove council meets Tuesday 

COVE — The City of Cove will hold its regular council meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cove City Hall, 504 Alder. The wastewater project and the Rose Street Bridge are among the items on the agenda.
