The Observer/LAURA MACKIE-HANCOCK
Ralph Moore does finishing work Wednesday on a clay mold of the new "Cast Iron Mary" statue at his home and studio near La Grande. The sculpture will be cast in bronze at the Valley Bronze in Joseph and will then be presented at Max Square in La Grande. The original statue stood on the corner of 4th and Depot St. in the early 1900's during the days of prohibition. It was was knocked over by a drunken driver, pieced back together and sold to the officials of a Texan town, where it was resurrected. Moore hopes to finish the mold within the next two weeks.
