CELEBRATE LA GRANDE SET SEPTEMBER 5
It's that time of year.
As summer winds down, the seventh annual Celebrate La Grande is scheduled for Max Square on Sept. 5.
It is billed as an informal end-of-summer block party, where residents can come out and meet their neighbors and greet new people to the community, said one of the organizers, Di Lyn Larsen-Hill.
"It's just a friendly celebration where we gather and try to recognize the accomplishments of the past year and enjoy each other's company," Larsen-Hill said.
The event is scheduled to take place from 5 to 8 p.m. in the cordoned off Fourth Street block between Adams Avenue and Jefferson Avenue adjacent to Max Square, not far from where La Grande is planning to build its new library.
There will be free hot dogs, soft drinks and ice cream.
There will be informational booths for non-profit groups such as the United Way, city commissions and politicians, she said. The Mobile Fun Unit will be there.
There will be fire truck rides for the kids and games involving fire hoses. A drug dog will be present.
Plenty of musical entertainment will be presented on the Max Square stage. The schedule:
5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Snooks.
5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Debbie Rudd.
6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Laudable Audibles.
6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Simonies.
7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Too Loud MacLeod and the Silencers.
