Eastern Oregon University President Phil Creighton may be Pennsylvania-bound.
Creighton is one of five finalists for the presidency of Kutztown University in Kutztown, Pa. The school is a state university with an enrollment of about 8,200. Eastern has about 2,000 students.
Creighton is scheduled to visit there Jan. 22-23.
Kutztown is one of several universities where Creighton has been nominated to be considered a presidential candidate. Creighton said he has allowed his name to remain under consideration at Kutztown and two other universities. The names of the other two universities have not been released.
Creighton said that he and his wife, Leigh, have not decided to move.
Leigh and I have made no decision to leave La Grande or Eastern Oregon University, Creighton said Friday.
However, I have been nominated for presidencies across the country, and for personal and professional reasons, I have permitted my candidacy to continue at three of these universities. While I remain very committed to EOU, I felt that it was also important for me to explore other possibilities at this time.
Kutztown University is 90 miles northwest of Philadelphia and about 100 miles south of New York City. It has colleges for visual and performing arts, business, education, liberal arts and sciences, and graduate studies.
Creighton has been EOUs president for 4 1/2 years, arriving in 1997. He came to Eastern from Salisbury State University in Maryland where he was provost and vice president of academic affairs. He succeeded David Gilbert, who served as EOUs president for 15 years before retiring.
