Candidates’ forum tonight
Candidates’ forum tonight
|
Union County residents set to vote in the May 20 elections have another chance to meet local candidates tonight, as the Chamber of Commerce hosts a forum at La Grande Middle School. The five men vying for a single seat open on the Union County Board of Commissioners, and two others running for 10th District Circuit Judge will be on hand for the event. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with introductions getting under way at 7. Kyle Corbin, Mark Davidson and John Lamoreau are in contention for the Republican nomination for county commissioner. Greg Franklin and Jim Mollerstrom seek the nod from Democrats. In the non-partisan judge’s race, Dan Ousley of Wallowa County is challenging incumbent Phil Mendiguren. According to ground rules set by the chamber, each candidate will have three minutes for opening statements. The audience then will submit written questions to a three-member panel consisting of Ted Kramer and Mona Tuck of The Observer and Rod Sands of the chamber. The panel will pass five questions on to the commissioner candidates, and four to the judge candidates. Each man will have two minutes to give their answers. Tonight’s public forum is the second such event to be held this election season. Earlier, county commissioner candidates met and gave their views at the Elgin Opera House. |
