Obstacle driving requires the mules to accurately travel in almost every way possible, including backing into a parking space before finishing the course. The event has been touted as the fastest growing mule show in the Northwest. Photo/RON OSTERLOH ENTERPRISE — The Hells Canyon Mule Days event has been selected, for
the fourth consecutive year, by American Cowboy Magazine as one of the
“101 Events Not To Miss In 2009.”
Hells Canyon Mule Days President Sondra Lozier was contacted with
the news by Joni Gleason, a representative of the magazine. The article
will run in the March edition and it includes Western-themed shindigs,
rodeo celebrations and livestock shows.
These events celebrate the West through their offerings of live music, cowboy poetry gatherings, parades, dances, Western trade shows, horse shows, carnivals, cook-offs and other attractions.
Some of the other events that were included in the five-state region were Reno Rodeo, California Rodeo Salinas, Winnemucca Mule and Horse Draft Challenge, Spirit Of The West Cowboy Gathering in Ellensburg, Wash., National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nev., Pendleton Roundup, and of course the largest mule show in the world, Bishop Mule Days in Bishop, Calif.
Lozier said, “We have been working hard to make this longstanding Wallowa County event a draw for visitors from near and far. It is great to be included in a national publication like American Cowboy Magazine.”
