DEADLINE FOR ANNUAL TOY DRIVE IS THURSDAY
A lot of little kids will be checking their stockings this Christmas to see if that special gift from Santa is there.
Some children will be disappointed.
The Salvation Army wants to see happy kids, and it is asking people to help Santa provide presents for Union County children. Those who want to give have several choices but they need to act soon. The Salvation Army Santa will be giving out food baskets and presents to families Friday.
Capt. Orpha Moody of the local Salvation Army said the deadline for turning in gifts is Thursday afternoon.
The Army has angel trees at Wal-Mart and Dennys Restaurant. Each tree is decorated with tags that have the first name, age and gender of a child, and the childs wish list. A person who chooses a name is asked to buy toys and some clothes.
We like for each of our angels to receive at least $35 worth of gifts, Moody said.
The unwrapped gifts may be donated at the Wal-Mart service desk or at the Salvation Army office, 1114 Y Ave.
Those who want to give toys may take them to the La Grande Grocery Outlet on Island Avenue or Cheris Main Street Salon in Cove. The toys should be new and unwrapped, Moody said.
The Army also has an adopt a family plan, in which a donor or donors may a provide a food basket, toys and clothes for a family. For information about the program, call the Salvation Army at 963-4829.
Our goal is to reach 1,500 kids throughout Union County, Moody said.
